Youth-Well
Working Together for Resilient and Democratic Youth
Youth-Well aims to foster resilience, inclusivity and active participation among young people,
Operated by: KMOP Education & Innovation Hub

CHALLENGE

The YouthWell project aims to create a positive cycle where improved mental health leads to increased civic engagement, and heightened civic participation, in turn, further enhances their mental wellbeing and overall quality of life
When young people experience mental health issues, they are often less motivated, less trusting, and less interested in actively participating in democratic life. In late 2020, the Social Science Research Council (SSRC) published research showing that the mental health impacts of the Covid-19 crisis could affect political participation. Although democracy and mental health are rarely discussed together, they are closely linked; individuals with depressive symptoms tend to be more politically disengaged.
