Raising awareness on human trafficking prevention: “Listen to the Signs. See the Danger”

In a powerful joint initiative, KMOP teamed up with Meteorites Creative Agency and STEFI Productions to launch a public awareness campaign in Greece addressing the urgent issue of human trafficking. Unveiled in the lead-up to the World Day Against Trafficking in Persons (30 July) in 2022, the campaign sought not merely to inform, but to sensitise the public, ignite discussion, and foster a deeper understanding of the often-hidden realities of exploitation.

A Message with Purpose

At the heart of the campaign lies the message: “Listen to the signs. See the danger.”. The main concept focuses on helping people identify the hidden signs of human trafficking. Signs that often go unnoticed in everyday life.

Creative Approach

The campaign invited viewers to explore two contrasting viewpoints: one shaped by ignorance, the other grounded in truth. Through carefully crafted video narratives, the campaign exposed the gap between perceived and actual reality, what is said versus what is really happening, urging viewers to confront uncomfortable truths.

Campaign Rollout

The campaign unfolded in two distinct phases:

Phase 1: Teaser Video

Teaser video

This short video aimed to provoke curiosity and concern, sharing striking statistics that set the stage:

  • Human trafficking is the third-largest criminal industry worldwide.
  • More than 40 million people across the globe are victims of trafficking.

By presenting the scale of the problem the teaser captured attention and framed the urgency of collective action.

Phase 2: “A History of Solidarity”

This phase introduced two fictional characters, Alyona and Andrei, each representing different facets of the trafficking cycle.

Alyona’s Story – The Voice of the Victim

Alyona narrates what seems to be a story of hope and opportunity, but the captions reveal the disturbing reality of coercion and exploitation beneath her words.

“There are two ways to hear Alyona’s story: through the eyes of ignorance, or through the eyes of truth. Can you spot the signs?”

Andrei’s Story – The Voice of the Trafficker

Framing himself as a benefactor, Andrei’s narrative is exposed through subtitles that reveal manipulation and control. The juxtaposition highlights how traffickers often operate under a guise of support.

A Collective Call to Action

The campaign concluded with a unified message: “Listen to the signs. See the danger.”

Audiences were encouraged to explore KMOP’s initiatives, which:

  • Raise awareness about the signs of trafficking
  • Empower first-line professionals to recognize and protect potential victims of trafficking
  • Promote community responsibility in prevention and early intervention
