Artificial Intelligence in Creative Writing
An initiative exploring how AI can increase digital literacy and self-expression in adult education
Operated by: KMOP

CHALLENGE

Generative AI, as opposed to discriminative (or traditional) AI, gained prominence starting in 2020 when OpenAI introduced its Generative Pre-trained Transformer (GPT), capable of processing and generating new text. This technology, often described as disruptive, has the potential to significantly transform the way we learn and work. Large language models like ChatGPT represent the latest advancements in a 70-year history of creative writing using computer algorithms. Since the 1950s, practitioners have explored computation as a medium that enhances, challenges, and transforms creative writing practices (Rettberg, 2019). While some pessimistic voices predict that AI will replace human creativity and judgment, render many workers redundant, and foster new dependencies, wrAIte adopts a more optimistic perspective. It explores how AI can enhance learning opportunities and empower individuals to express themselves more effectively in a world where 90% of professional roles require at least basic digital knowledge, yet 42% of Europeans lack fundamental digital skills.
