“Break the Chain”: A campaign to raise awareness among first-line professionals on human trafficking prevention

"Break the Chain" was a nationwide awareness campaign run by KMOP to strengthen early detection of human trafficking through targeted communication. Delivered in three targeted phases, the campaign focused on professionals likely to encounter victims in their daily roles - educators, transport workers, and tourism staff. By combining research-driven content with compelling visuals across Facebook, LinkedIn and Instagram, the campaign provided frontline professionals with the tools and knowledge needed to recognise and respond to potential trafficking cases effectively. Each phase featured a shared call to action: register for the national online event “Human Trafficking: Break the Chain” held on 18 October to mark the EU Anti Trafficking Day.

Phase 1: Spotting the signs of human trafficking in schools

Educators are often the first to notice when a child is in distress. This phase focused on helping teachers and school staff recognise signs of exploitation. Digital messaging reached over 50,000 educators across Greece, generating 120.000 views on KMOP’s social media channels.

Phase 2: Spotting the signs of human trafficking in public transport

Bus drivers, ticket inspectors, station staff, and other frontline workers in public transport are often in a position to notice signs of trafficking during their routine interactions. This phase of the campaign featured tailored content to support their awareness and vigilance, reaching over 37.000 professionals and generating 70.000 views across social media.

Phase 3: Spotting the signs of human trafficking in the tourism sector

Tourism professionals—from hotel staff and travel agents to tour operators, front-desk personnel and housekeeping teams—are key allies in prevention. This phase focused on identifying risk factors within hospitality and travel settings. The campaign reached 30.000 professionals, generating 45.000 views across social media.
