Participatory Arts Programmes for older persons in healthcare settings

An Erasmus+ project that intends to explore the potential of designing art programmes for older persons in healthcare settings.

CHALLENGE

The role that the combination of health and well-being, art and creativity can play in social participation and inclusion, and the ways in which art can alleviate stress and anxiety within healthcare settings are significant. However, so far, the majority of existing creative/art programmes for older people in healthcare settings are not evidence-based and address older people as spectators rather than as participants. The project’s innovative nature lies primarily in a comprehensive and sustainable approach that promotes the participation of older people in the creation and implementation of art practices in healthcare settings. Creative Care promotes inclusion and can produce art practices that are very diverse in nature, scope, and scale but are also site-specific.

Good Practice Guide and Recommendations for VET providers

The aim is to identify the specific challenges and learning mismatches of social care and art professionals working with older people regarding their skills and knowledge of the intergenerational approach and participatory art programmes through field research and focus groups.

This mapping of learning mismatches will be used to develop recommendations with proposed relevant skills for professionals, including an outline for contents and training methodologies for VET education in the field of creative arts programmes for older persons in healthcare settings.

The results will be will be transformed into one electronic brochure the “Good Practice Guide and Recommendations for VET providers” in English, Greek, Romanian, and German.

VET Learning resources development

The project intends to develop teaching resources for VET providers that include relevant and easy-to-digest information on the intergenerational approach and the design and implementation of participatory art programmes for older persons in the context of health care settings. It aims to equip VET providers with methodologies, tools and skills in order to actively respond to the needs of professionals working directly with older people. It will also contribute to improving the quality and innovative nature of existing training on creative arts for older persons at VET level.

Online Creative Care Toolbox for VET providers

The project intends to produce Creative Care e-learning units in English with subtitles in Greek, Romanian and German to offer the developed training resources in an accessible and user-friendly manner; an online comprehensive educational platform in all four languages; as well as hosting online ‘train the trainer’ seminars in Greece, Romania and Austria, targeting VET providers and trainers.
