CHALLENGE

HATETRACKERS seeks to combat online hate speech by equipping youths, youth organizations and citizens’ committees with the necessary competences to recognize and act against such human rights violations
In 2015, the European Commission against Racism and Intolerance warned that hate speech was becoming increasingly habitual, especially online. 63% of girls surveyed reported some form of online harassment on social media; 38% of people with disabilities experienced hate speech in the 12 months preceding the survey; and 17 % were victims of physical violence. Despite this awareness, little is known about the trends and expressions used to disseminate cyber hate. It is thus crucial to improve our understanding of the prevalence of online hate speech and to empower ordinary citizens, especially younger ones, to monitor and report it.
