META-MUSEUM
Moving Emotions towards confidence in the Transformative Appropriation for a Meaningful Understanding of cultural heritage: a neuroScientific approach to EUropean Museums
META-MUSEUM explores the transformative power of cultural heritage through the lens of neuroscience.
Operated by: KMOP

CHALLENGE

The META-MUSEUM project introduces the "TransforMeans theory" - a new approach that helps museums connect with visitors in a more meaningful and emotional way.
Cultural heritage interpretation remains largely expert-driven, limiting public participation and reinforcing a democratic deficit in the sector. This exclusion weakens citizens’ sense of ownership, connection, and resilience, particularly in relation to archaeological heritage, which is often perceived as elitist. The lack of inclusive engagement undermines social cohesion and emotional well-being. Addressing this gap is critical to fostering more democratic, empathetic, and transformative cultural experiences that reflect diverse voices and strengthen community identity.
