Miles
MIL and PRE-BUNKING approaches for Critical thinking in the education sector
The MILES project aims to build resilience against disinformation and promote independent and critical thinking in the educational sector.
Operated by: KMOP Education & Innovation Hub

CHALLENGE

In today’s hyper-connected world, the abundance of information brings both benefits and risks. While it enhances awareness, it also leads to challenges like fake news and misinformation. Emotions like anger and fear worsen these issues, hindering critical thinking and enhancing disinformation. Technology enables the rapid spread of unverified information, amplifying societal risks, as seen during the COVID-19 “disinfodemic.” Recognising the heavy digital exposure of young people due to the access to evolving technology, education can play a vital role in combating disinformation and promoting digital literacy.

Involvement and awareness activities for Policymakers

This initiative aims to engage local educational communities in various countries to understand their role in fostering Media and Information Literacy (MIL), combating fake news, fostering critical thinking, and enhancing schools’ capacity to counter these issues. The process involves conducting focus groups to gather insights on existing initiatives at local, regional, and national levels that combat these challenges. Based on the findings, concrete proposals will be developed and presented to policymakers at both national and EU levels. The ultimate goal is to establish a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between project stakeholders and policymakers, integrating project activities and outcomes into local best practices and strengthening relationships within the educational community.
